    TASTE

We’re so excited to be offering a fresh new natural Ethiopian harvest! We had all grown attached to our previous harvests, the Mundayo and M Abuhasen Reba, which were with us for a while! It’s with a big heart that we see these coffees leave our shelves, but we assure you, this new natural-processed coffee will be a wonderful successor.

A whirlwind of cherries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries greet us from the onset. A soft creamy and chocolatey texture coats the palate once the fruity surprise has passed. In aftertaste: subtle floral notes reminiscent of jasmine. Sweet!

    ORIGIN

We have already offered a Refisa harvest in the past here at Nektar, and we were eager to be able to put our hands on another of this cooperative’s wonderful productions.

Direct-to-producer traceability in Ethiopia is rare and hard to find, mostly because there is a limited number of processing stations available to the great many small producers in the country, and so often harvests get mixed into what’s called day blends: a blend of all the beans brought into one station on the same day. Of course, beans are sorted according to quality before being blended like this, and assigned a grade from 1 to 3 - 1 being of highest quality, and 3 being of lowest. Quality is measured according to the percentage of imperfect or defective beans within a harvest.

This particular harvest is a Grade 1. It was processed at the Testi West Arsi Washing Station, and is entirely composed of coffees from the Refisa cooperative. After sorting, the coffee cherries were spread on raised beds to dry for 15-20 days.

    DRINKING

Perfect for a funky latte reminiscent of a chocolate and berry milkshake. Also delicious as a filter for its juiciness that will make you want a second cup as soon as the first is finished.
