TASTE
What a pleasure to welcome an Ethiopian coffee this expressive and true to its terroir! From the very first sip, red berries take centre stage, with the bright intensity of wild raspberry. This vibrant fruitiness gives way to lively floral notes and a refreshing finish reminiscent of frosted mint. A rich, syrupy texture brings everything together, giving this cup as much depth as it has brightness.
ORIGIN
Reshad Ababulgu is part of a new generation of Ethiopian coffee producers taking their future into their own hands. After years of selling their coffee through cooperatives such as Duromina, Reshad and other producers from his region, including Mustefa Abasadi and Abo Hussein, are now looking to market their harvests independently.
A second-generation coffee producer, Reshad farms land that has belonged to his family for nearly 60 years. In the early 2010s, he modernized his plantations by introducing new varieties and farming practices. With improved drying equipment, outside support, and export licences, producers like him can now gain greater recognition for their expertise and reap more of the rewards of their hard work. This natural lot reflects their commitment to putting quality first.
BREWING
As a filter coffee, Reshad delivers a vibrant, generous cup, with aromas unfolding in a beautifully precise progression. Wild raspberry takes the lead, followed by floral nuances and a distinctive freshness on the finish. Espresso offers a richer experience: red berry notes become more concentrated, the texture turns distinctly syrupy, and sweetness takes on a more prominent role. This aromatic richness also lends itself to a touch of milk, especially in shorter drinks. In a cortado, the milk's gentle sweetness rounds out the cup without overshadowing the coffee's fruity character.
